Install & first launch
From receipt to first sound
What you do after buying depends on what you bought: a browser app needs no install at all, KlarFunk is a desktop download, the plugins go into your plugin folders. Each takes a few minutes.
| You bought | Products | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A browser app | Show Clock, SoundSense, SetlistForge, Stage Plot Generator, PatchSmith, RiderSmith | Nothing to install — it unlocks on your squaresmile.de account |
| The desktop app | KlarFunk | Free download from squaresmile.de, then enter your key in the app |
| An audio plugin | SubPress, WidthForge, Airchain, LoudSense | Download from your Gumroad library, install, rescan in your DAW |
| A template or guide | The Tour Paperwork Kit and its parts, GigBase | Download from your Gumroad library and open it |
Browser apps
- Buy. Your Gumroad receipt has a licence key for each app — a bundle gives one key per app.
- Same email as your squaresmile.de account? If your account uses the address you bought with and it is verified, the app unlocks by itself within seconds. That also works if you create the account later with that address.
-
Different email, or no account yet? Open the claim link on your receipt (
squaresmile.de/claim/<app>), paste the key, and the account and the app are set up together. Already signed in? Open the app from your dashboard and paste the key on its Activate page. - On a phone or tablet, add squaresmile.de to your home screen and it opens like an app: how to install it.
KlarFunk
KlarFunk is a desktop app for macOS and Windows. Download it free from squaresmile.de/klarfunk — every install runs a 14-day full trial without an account. Enter the key from your Gumroad receipt in the app to keep it running; one licence covers three computers. The first launch asks once, as described below. Full guide: squaresmile.de/help/klarfunk.
Audio plugins
| Plugin | macOS 11+ (Apple Silicon & Intel) | Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) | In the download |
|---|---|---|---|
| SubPress | VST3 + AU, Stereo and Mono versions | VST3 + standalone app | Plugin files to copy |
| WidthForge | VST3 + AU + standalone app | VST3 + standalone app | Installer (.pkg / Setup.exe) and PDF manual |
| Airchain | VST3 + AU | — macOS only | Plugin files to copy |
| LoudSense | VST3 + AU + standalone app | VST3 + standalone app | Plugin files, app and install notes |
There is no AAX version, so the plugins do not load in Pro Tools.
Where the plugin files go
| Format | Folder |
|---|---|
| VST3 · macOS | ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3 |
| Audio Unit · macOS | ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components |
| VST3 · Windows | C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 |
| Standalone app | Applications on a Mac, any folder on Windows |
On a Mac, press Cmd + Shift + G in Finder and paste the path; create the folder if it is missing. The WidthForge installer puts everything in place for you.
The first launch asks once
Our installers and plugins are not signed with an Apple or Microsoft developer certificate yet, so your system asks once before it runs them.
macOS 15 or later
Click Done in the warning, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, click Open Anyway next to the message and confirm with your password.
macOS 11 – 14
Right-click (or Control-click) the installer or app, choose Open, then Open again.
A plugin that your DAW skips silently (macOS)
macOS keeps a download flag on the plugin. Remove it in Terminal, once per file, then rescan — for example:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/Airchain.vst3
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/Airchain.component
Windows
When SmartScreen says “Windows protected your PC”, click More info, then Run anyway.
The plugin does not show up
- Restart your DAW or rescan plugins. Most hosts only look for new plugins when they start or when you ask.
- Logic Pro: Settings → Plug-in Manager, select the plugin and click Reset & Rescan Selection.
- Other hosts: check that they scan the standard VST3 folder listed above.
- Still missing? Each plugin has its own guide with a troubleshooting page: SubPress · WidthForge · Airchain · LoudSense.
